How it started

After World War I Germany was a country of poverty. Something had to be done, so Adolf Hitler a man in power started telling everyone that the Jews were the ones to blame, that they were the reason for all the country's problems. The people of Germany were so desperate for a solution so they believed him. A Nazi party formed and they all agreed something had to be done about the Jews. Germany started world war II by invading Poland on the 1st of September 1939. At first they didn't do much physical abuse to the Jews but they made it hard for them to shop and do everyday chores or life necessities, some of them thought it was best to leave. Hitler and the Nazi party then started putting Jews all over Europe in Concentration camps and Ghettos.  Ghettos were these places where they sent them away from their homes and families to live in a new small village just for Jews.  It was very hard for Jews to live in these places because there were illnesses spreading and it was hard to live a healthy safe live. The Nazis were throwing bombs and shooting people that didn't do what they were ordering. Although  the war really highlighted acts against human nature there were some people that helped the Jews, they were called Righteous Gentiles (there's a section on this). Not all the Jews did what the Nazis said. Some of them hid from the soldiers, risking their lives. If they were caught they could've been killed but for some, it was their best option.  Throughtout the war the Nazis continued on finding more fast and efficent ways of killing Jews. Read more about these devastating times in the rest of our website.
